So January is over and, believe it or not, Spring is just around the corner.
Are you working towards your goals yet, or are they still in the planning stage.
Below are a few tips to help you along the rocky road to improved health, fitness and well-being.
- Have you noticed how, after a few weeks, training always feels a bit easier? Your body will adapt quickly to any training programme that you implement. Because of this, you need to constantly work for longer periods or at higher intensities to continually make improvements. Always work just out of your comfort zone!
- Even if you do work harder and longer your body still needs to be challenged. So try some different types of training. As the saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat. For Cardio-Vascular training, if you run, try cycling. If you lift weights, try changing exercises (Eg. Instead of bench pressing, try flies).
- Set yourself short, medium and long term goals! I always stress the importance of having targets to my clients. Make the goals challenging, but realistic.
- A good diet is essential. You need to ensure you are getting sufficient nutrients to fuel your workouts, even if you are looking to lose weight!
- Never train through pain! If you feel muscular or joint pain during exercise, stop! If you have a injury, training on it will only make it worse. That said, muscles feeling sore for a couple of days after a training session is not uncommon.
If you are unsure how to make improvements to your training then contact a personal trainer. Even a couple of sessions can give you a whole new perspective and direction.
